Steve Jordan: Music

End of the Line

(Steve Jordan)
words & music by Steve Jordan
Hear the train come down the tracks
Wonder when I’ll be coming back
Don’t know why I cannot stay
The whistle keeps pulling me away

Hear the chiming of its bell
For whom it rings it will not tell
Hop on board a southbound car
Hoping that she’ll take you far

See her take on water fast
She’s thirsty now but it won’t last
Belly full of red-hot coal
She pulls out slow now there she goes…

I’m leaving; I’m leaving you behind
I’m riding to the end, end of the line

See the smoke pour from her stack
As it trails along behind the tracks
Unlike the girl I left behind
The smoke just twists & fades with time

Ride the rails what could it cost
The most you could wind up is lost
Hop on board a southbound train
Now & then you need a change…….(break)

The sun and wind show how you feel
As you feel those mile beneath your wheels
& You don’t know when you’ll be coming back
As you sail along those railroad tracks

I’m leaving, I’m leaving you behind
I’m riding to the end, end of the line
