From the recording Song for An Ocean

I wrote this long before I wondered about global warming.

Lyrics

Her waters could be still or raging with a chill
That could twist a ship down under to her floor
Her rhythm could be fast or might barely move the mast
And the nights could be as sleepless as the dawn

………But they say that the seas are what carry us along
& we gather up a harvest every day
Be it whaling or the fish, or anything she gives
We are thankful for the patience that she has

Looking back over the years
Everyone would bring some tears
To the mothers wives and daughters of the dead
Be it anger or the pain that makes them come again
To sail upon her waters every day…………………………….

Now the ocean like the sky is just like you or I
Changing anytime I feels the mood
As constant as the tides or the restlessness inside
We feel when we’re doing something wrong…………… …

Some say the strong survive while some were born to
The ocean puts our words to a test
The creaking of a ship when the night winds start to shift
Keep some of the sailors from their rest……………………..

Now where the time does go is one thing no one knows
The ocean keeps that secret to herself
An like wise men in their day, she know just what to say
For she tells us how she feels now & then
